Over a year since the first season of 13 Reasons Why was released the second has been announced for 18 May.
With the reasons for Hannah’s (played by Katherine Langford) death now public, it is safe to assume the next chapter in the story will focus on who is responsible.
While Hannah’s mother, Olivia Baker (Kate Walsh), will be fighting the school in a legal battle to get them to take responsibility for her death, Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) may hold the answer to her problem.
In one of the final scenes of season one, Clay recorded Bryce Walker (Justin Prentice) admitting that he had raped Hannah – and this 14th tape could become a catalyst within the second season as he assists Olivia in her legal battle.
The 13 Reasons Why Instagram account recently posted a photo of the school set, and it may have hinted at what the upcoming second season will be focussed on.
The image is of the entrance to Liberty High School’s office and counselling area.
Viewers will recall that Liberty High’s counselling area is where Hannah’s final tape was made.
In the counselling office she recorded herself speaking to Mr. Porter (Derek Luke) who essentially called her a liar when she told him about Bryce’s actions.
This tape will most likely be the beginning of Olivia’s legal journey, as she has evidence her daughter was let down by a professional.
The image also shows the school as barren, hinting it may have been shut down, or is going through a mourning period after the shock gunshot in the series one finale.
Although it is still unknown who was shot, fans have been theorising that Tyler Down (Devin Druid) attempted to kill himself following the bullying that he endured.
His death would explain the polaroid photo motif that has been seen throughout the promotional images for season two – as Tyler was a keen photographer.
This theory is also backed up by other recent promotional images which have shown most of the original cast members excluding Tyler.
With a second death on the school’s hands, a long battle is certainly ahead of the school board.
The previous photos released by Netflix showed Clay with an ethereal Hannah in his room, showing that he is still very upset about losing her.
It also showed off Bryce being held against a wall by Mr. Porter, which may mean that the two will not be seeing eye-to-eye throughout the episodes.
Tony Padilla (Christian Navarro) was also seen in a horrible way as his car was almost destroyed.
It is currently unknown whether he has been attacked or was involved in an accident.
